Claude Oakley Moseley

About Claude Oakley Moseley

Claude Moseley was born September 15, 1870, Elgin, Cook County, Illinois. In 1882 when he was 12 years old, he joined his father, Charles Scott Moseley and his stepmother Julia Daniels Moseley at their homestead in Limona, Florida. Other than a few forays north with his father to attend school, it was in Limona (now Brandon, Florida area) that Claude spent his adolescent years learning farming and citrus cultivation and living out his life on the frontier of Florida.

To recover from the economic depression of 1893, the United States increased its technology, manufacturing, and mining and expanded its international economic markets to break out of former isolationism throughout the 1890s. When the Spanish-American War broke out in 1898, Claude served in the military and upon his return to Limona, he prospered in the citrus industry. He had one daughter with his wife, Clara Burr Moseley of Connecticut. He died in 1948 at the age of 78, and is buried at the historic cemetery in Limona near the Moseley Homestead.
